Director Panneerselvam 's latest, made with newcomers including producer S.S. Chakravarthy 's son Johnny as hero starring 'Renigunta' has arrived today. Let us see how far the movie entertained the audiences.
Story
The story begins on the backdrop of Madurai and here Sakthi (johnny) is a happy-go-lucky guy, whose life goes smooth with parents and friends. his father Sethupathi , a clerk, has great dreams that his son should become a successful engineer. However, his life takes a turn when his parents are brutally murdered by Kathir . However, Sakthi decides to take revenge, but in vain. He is caught in his murder attempt due to his inexperience and remanded for 14 days.
There, he meets Pandu aka Pandurangan (Nishanth), Dabba aka Prem Kumar ( Theepetti Ganeshan ), Mari (Thamizh) and Michael (Sandeep ). They bond well and decide to help Sakthi with his revenge. Soon, they come out and kill the goon and decide to go to Mumbai to become gangsters. However, fate gets them to Renigunta and in touch with Bunker (bunker ), a middleman between clients and contract killers. In Renigunta, Sakthi meets a dumb girl ( sanusha ) whose brother is keen on putting her to flesh trade and love slowly blossoms between them. What happens from there forms the rest of the story.
Performance
The young cast, mostly newcomers have done a fine job. Johnny came up with a good performance and so was Sanusha who looked cute and sensuous despite her role. Nishanth was neat, Ganeshan was great, Bunker was regular, the others did their bit to add value to the film.
Technically the movie is adequate. Camerawork suits the mood of the movie for most parts while music does not find too much of a place in spite of a few songs in the film. Dialogues by Singampuli are definitely praiseworthy. The director ( Paneerselvam ) has come up with a hard hitting tale and both the presentation and narrative are strong. Editing was crisp but it could have worked on cutting down the gore. Fights were realistic, costumes were natural and the art department was creative.
Analysis:
All credit goes to Panneerselvam 's clean script, the highlight of the film, which gives everything in the right proportion. The film seems to have taken a strong inspiration from the film 'The City of Joy' . While the first half goes on a rather smooth mode, it is the second half that gets very serious. Overall, this is not for the family audience but for those who believe in realistic and serious cinema. In short, Renigunta simply rocks!
