There are no movies from big four stars this Diwali . And the much publicized Suriya's 'Ghatikudu' grabbed the attention of many because of that. The veteran director KS Ravikumar has earned his stripes again with ‘Ghatikudu'. So the expectations have been huge on the movie and let us see how it gelled with the anticipations.
Story
The story begins with Ashok ( Surya ) is a stunning sharpshooter. He never misses his aim and that brings him a big assignment, one that promises crores. His father Ibrahim ( Shiyaji Shinde ) makes the big deal with Dr Abul ( Rahul Dev ). A magistrate (Bharat gopi) all set to report his findings on a sensational case is the target and Ashok is ready to shoot. But for the first time in his life, Ashok misses his target and magistrate survives. With crores and a huge reputation to protect, Ashok vows to complete the unfinished job. Then he comes into close contact with the Judge's large family consisting of his mother ( Saroja Devi ), niece Tara ( Nayanthara ) and others. Finally, will he succeed in that attempt? That forms rest of the story.
Performance
Suriya 's screen presence is good and his energy levels have to save the movie on a whole. Suriya has shown his great abilities that are different shades of the character in this film.
Nayanthara looks beautiful especially in songs she stood as big attractive factor on screen. And coming to her characterization, she is doing same sort of roles in every film.
Bharat Gopi was elegant. Saroja Devi as the Paati is okay with her trademark, excessive make-up. Vadivel is a scream and is present throughout the film. Others are ok.
Technical Aspects
Technical departments are ok. Cinematography by Ganesh was up to the standard. Most the shots have been done with Green Matt . Choreography and Costumes are impressive. The action scenes of Kanal Kannan and Franz Spilhaus was impressive. Harris Jayaraj Music stands out to be something better than everything. The film is lacking freshness and the director K.S. Ravikumar is solely responsible for that. K.S.Ravikumar drags the film at many parts, especially the flashback portion. The production values are good but the subject matter is weak.
Highlights:
Run chase picturised in Kolkata in the first half
Cinematography with Digital Intermediate
Harris Jeyaraj's music
Disappointments:
Storyline
Second half treatment
No freshness in narration
climax
Analysis:
'Ghatikudu'' is crucial for any film to possess with strong second half when compared to first half. But here it has become inversed. The audiences those stand up from their seats after the completion of the movie feel that first half is better. That drops the graph on a whole.
On the whole, 'Ghatikudu' is trademark KS Ravikumar cinema. 'Ghatikudu' has all ingredients of a commercial film like action, love, comedy and sentiments. If you are not a stickler for logic or substance, there are quite a few positives to sit back and enjoy.
